Tasting mulberries: Skinner vs Himalayan DMOR9

Skinner makes lager fruits that start ripening at least a week before Himalayan DMOR9. The leaf shapes are different too, see the picture below. In the taste test on April 13, 2022, DMOR9 fruits were significantly sweeter and more flavorful. Both plants are in pots and this is a preliminary evaluation. In the picture below, Skinner is on the left and DMOR9 is on the right.

On April 8, 2022 I posted a video about these and other long fruited mulberries https://youtu.be/CVLL18msS44

Check our sales site if we have the cuttings available reallygoodplants.com

  1. Marta, thanks for making the DMOR9 scions available! Ever since I read about the description on taste about a year ago, I had been looking for the Himalayan red. This was actually our first attempt(wife and I watched lot of youtube videos on grafting); had couple of plants take the graft and now growing out nicely! Thanks and look forward to trying these!

  3. Hey Marta. What other long type mulberries are you growing? Do you have Taiwan or the Himalayan Red?

    1. Hi Dan, I just grafted Taiwan Red. Not sure if the Himalayan Red is the same as Taiwan or different. I don't have it.

  4. I don't know either. Does dmor9 or skinner produce very round juvenile leaves like the photo I put up in the mulberry group? Did you happen to get one of Di's Taiwan?

    1. The leaves on the HR look very similar to the ones in this video.

  5. I don't think DMOR9 and Skinner have juvenile leaves similar to your picture. Maybe Taiwanese Red is more similar to yours, but not sure if identical. My grafts just started to grow. Yes, this accession came from Di.
